About Heavy Restaurant Group
Our History

Founded by Seattle-based couple Larry and Tabitha Kurofsky, we're the management team behind Purple, Barrio, and Lot No. 3 restaurants.

The business began in 2001, when Larry and Tabitha opened the first Purple Cafe and Wine Bar in Woodinville, Washington (if you're curious, Larry worked the bar and Tabitha served tables) with the goal of providing an experience that delivered "approachable expertise". Purple paired a global wine selection with Northwest cuisine made from local seasonal ingredients—all in an informal atmosphere. All menu items were designed to be enhanced by wine pairings and vice versa. In addition, all the staff not only were trained to be knowledgeable about the pairings, but to make recommendations for guests in a very comfortable, accessible way.

The idea took off, and in 2003, a second Purple Cafe & Wine Bar opened in Kirkland, Washington. In 2006, Purple opened in downtown Seattle, followed in 2009 by a fourth location in downtown Bellevue.

In 2009, we continued to build on our experience pairing food and drinks with the creation of Barrio, a restaurant that combines Mexican cuisine with innovative craft cocktails in an energetic urban space.

Barrio was followed-up shortly afterward by downtown Bellevue's Lot No. 3, a restaurant and bar that combines comfort food, classic cocktails, and craft brews in a vintage industrial setting.

Heavy Restaurant Group Today

Today, we have six locations that are supported by over 400 local individuals. We're proud of how long people choose to work with us and we're always looking for passionate, talented people to join our team. If you're interested, check out the Employment page on this site.

We also make an effort to give back to the communities that we call home. To that end we actively participate in numerous charitable endeavors and encourage our employees to do the same. Just a few of the partnerships we have been happy to build over the years include; Olive Crest, Virginia Mason, Bailey Boushey, Wave Project, UNICEF Tap Project, Dish Up Literacy and Great American Dine Out.

Last, but definitely not least, we want to say "thank you" to all the guests who've visited us over the years. If you've visited one (or more) of our restaurants and you have any comments to share, please visit us our Feedback page. We're always looking for ways to improve.

We hope to see you soon!
